Project Professionals To Gain Critical Leadership And Strategic Management Expertise Through PMI’s Globally Renowned Certification Program

As the project management profession evolves in line with the global business environment, employers are focusing their hiring efforts on project practitioners with the leadership and high-level business skills that can support long-range strategic objectives and contribute to the bottom line. In order to ensure that its certification holders are equipped with these skills, the Project Management Institute (PMI) has upgraded its Continuing Certification Requirements (CCR) program to align with the employer-identified skills depicted in the PMI Talent Triangle: technical, leadership, and strategic and business management expertise.

Through its CCR Program, PMI delivers the only Credentialing Program in their profession that assures project professionals continue to develop their careers in a consistent, actionable and meaningful way. The program upgrade is based on recent PMI research that demonstrates the evolving role of project professionals within an organization, and highlights employers’ growing need for project talent with skills that the PMI Talent Triangle illustrates. For example, 66% of organizations say that technical project skills  are the most difficult to find, but 96% indicate that these are the most teachable. Meanwhile, 71% of organizations rank leadership skills  as the most important for long-term success, and organizations report a 72% average project success rate when they align their talent to organizational strategy .

Benefits of the CCR Program’s upgrade include:

  • Increased guidance on where to focus their professional development skill areas based on employer needs
  • Increased emphasis on education that aligns to technical, leadership, and strategic and business management skills (at least 60% of PDUs must be earned here)
  • More flexibility in professional development pursuits—certification holders can now customize their CCR program to fit their unique professional situation and organizational needs
  • A newly designed system to support and streamline the process

“PMI’s upgraded CCR Program is designed to give our certification holders greater competitive advantage, higher credibility and more direction for their career development,” said Brian A. Weiss, MBA, Vice President, Practitioner Markets for PMI. “These enhancements provide the prescriptive direction, based on their employer’s clearly expressed needs, for which project professionals have been asking in order to stay relevant in a continually evolving global business environment.”For more information about PMI’s upgraded CCR Program, click here.
